Great idea, Ed! It looks like the handle is notched to fit over the flange on the side? or is it actually fastened to the plane somewhere?

Not fastened- just slips over the cheek and rides against the back curve of the frog. Comes off/on in a second or two. The text below each picture helps explain it.
