I don't know how other builders use these dishes, but I saw this idea on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXkXqEBp2X0 . I tried it with awesome results! I've never achieved such a geat fit so quickly.

I have been doing like that for 7 years . Sure helps with fit and finish .

I have 2 handles on mine so I can do a push-pull motion easier or spin it like in the video.

That's a good idea Tim... I think I'll adopt it! This is my first encounter with using a dish. On my first eight guitars I used sandpaper on a board with wedges on the other end... no more! Using a dish is like stepping into a new world. Thanks be to John Hall for having the sand paper disks available for sale! Also John: I saw your video on YouTube.... great tips on technique... thanks again!

What dictates the location of the center of the dish in relation to the guitar, is it where the x brace would intersect ?

Actually it is the dead center. It just makes it easier to spin.
