John, Actually it is not much koa at all. Koa is too way heavy to make the entire body out of, so I vacuum laminate a thick, about 1/8", shop made koa veneer onto a Spanish cedar body. Makes a nice, balanced instrument and stretches out the koa. I do the same with curly mango. I have never done much outside the acoustic building world, so these solid body steels are a lot of fun. A great deal of freedom in design and structure.
