EIR Cutaway Dred with Torrified Top
Posted: Mon Sep 28, 2020 2:11 pm
This is my recently completed project and first-time cutaway build. The back and sides are EIR and the top is torrified Adirondack Spruce.
The gentleman I built this for wanted his guitar to be unique so he chose the bird motif on the headstock and fretboard. The beaks on the birds proved to be a real bugger to inlay. He also wanted to do the pearl around the perimeter and the sound hole, which really sets it off against the Ivoroid binding.
As most of my builds go, it took me forever to get the finish where I wanted it. This one has Shellac Finishes post cat Royal Lac product.
I will try to get a decent sound file to attach to this post when my buddy/customer can come over after Covid. I certainly am not able to play well enough to record it, but to my ears it has a very bright sound and is quite a boomer.
I am going to be adding a K & K Mini pickup after I refine the setup in a few weeks. The initial setup was surprisingly good and this one is easily playable.
