OK, he's not my uncle, that's his stage name.
I always like a challenge. Guess what it was on this build.

Pretty standard Martin Sipo kit build, with the exception of the giant inlay and a spalted hickory head plate. K&K pickup, also (thanks John).

Couple of progress pics:

The back wood was quite pretty with just a little stain for color.

Spalted hickory from the firewood pile, with my logo in ebony.

Did you do the inlay first then cut the fret slots? Did the pearl chip at the edges when you installed the frets? Cool inlay

Thanks.
It was a preslotted fretboard, so I did the inlay then recut the slots as necessary.
It’s mother of plastic, not mother of pearl, so no chipping.

Yep, classic mother of toilet seat. Owner loves it.

That complete faux shell guitar - sheesh, gotta draw the line somewhere.

Next challenges around here are putting a burst on a 000, building a highly figured cherry dread, and a slope shoulder 12 fret in black locust for me.

Paul Hostetter built a couple like that and he explained how it was done. If you put the sheet of plastic in a pan of boiling water, you can shape it - even around a wooden neck. So the body, neck and bridge were all covered.

Your slooks great
