Koa Slope shoulder Dreadnaught

Post by Woody OKeefe »

Hi Guys,

I've had this strung up right before Christmas but wanted to see if I would have any problems with my bridge plate extension. Happy to say no problems! It sounds great. I put a wider neck on it because I suffer from fat finger syndrome. Thanks for looking.

Koa wood backs and sides
Engleman spruce top
Bubinga bindings
LMI gold fret wire
Grover gold Kluson type tuners
Hanalei 5 piece neck
Rosewood fingerboard
Rosewood bridge

Hey Woody,
Glad to hear that bridge plate stayed together for you. The koa looks amazing - what is the finish? I put the evo fretwire on my koa build too - looks great with the honey/golds in the wood, doesn't it?

Woody,
I JUST saw an older post from you this morning, and was going to ask you how this one turned out. She looks great. Good job.
Are you finding the fretboard easier to play on?
I've been making mine 1/16" wider, but that is not much and I don't know if I can tell a difference..was thinking about going to like 1 7/8" at the nut.

So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

Hey guys thanks for the approval.

Darren, the finish is wipe on shellac followed by wipe on poly followed by 3m microfiber sheets and then minwax finish paste. I don't pore fill.

Kevin,
The fret board is 1.9 in. and I really like it. I may sand down the neck to lessen the thickness.

Ken Cierp was right the bridge plate extension worked just fine. If I was as good as John Hall I might have removed the bridge plate. But I'm not!!!

Thanks Ken The back I found on Ebay and the sides are from LMI

Thanks Mmapags, I use Minwax wipe on poly with cotton ball wraped in a piece of old Tshirt.
