From the dark side: Scratch Telecaster
From the dark side: Scratch Telecaster
Acoustic guitars are more challenging for the builder, but what if your friends just want electrics? You take a minute and go for it! So for my friend Noud I made a Telecaster from the builders dark side. And since Telecasters tend to have a bit boring looks, we found a stunning top for it. As soon Noud produces a decent soundsample, I'll post it.
Top-Big Leaf Canadian Maple 5A fugure
Body-American Red Alder
Neck-Hard rock Maple
Fingerboard-East Indian Rosewood
Binding-ABS creamy
Bridge-Gotoh Modern Telecaster-style
Pickups-Fender Texas Special

Herman,
Nicely done. The top is stunning. Did you dye the top or spray a transparent toner?

Thanks boys,
I put stewmacs red liquid dye on the bare top and sanded it almost completely down afterwards. This enhances the figure. After that I put about 5 layers of red tinted laquer over it. Got a lot of dyes in the house, most of them powders. But this stewmac dye beats them all. It dissolves immediately in the laquer without altering in colour. And it is as red as red can be.
