Polycrylic?

Post by Guitar Hack »

Anyone used Minwax polycrylic?

I used it on a neck and it looks great. Thought I would check with y'all before trying a guitar body.

I dont recall anyone here ever mentioning that finish.
I use nitro. I like the repairability factor...and the smell. ;o)

We experimented with Minwax Poly acrylic and Hydrocoat at about the time -- however not for guitars but rather in our furniture accessory business (Woodland Inspirations). Both of these products raised the grain severely even after the second coat had dried, we found this unacceptable. Perhaps thinnner coats or longer dry times would have helped? At any rate those products were not compatible with our systems.

I put on Emtech pore filler first and then a coat of shellac and got decent results. It looks just like Emtech 6000 when you open the can. I haven't had much luck with Emtech 6000 so am looking at some alternatives. I've pretty much given up on getting that glass like finish. I'm sure there is something I'm missing. Anyone got any good reference material for getting that water like finish?
