Minwax rattle-can lacquer curing time

Post by phavriluk »

Never did get a good idea as to how long I might need to let a finished part cook on the shelf before fretting/assembling.

I can sand a sprayed coat within hours of application, but that's not the same as a solid curing duration.

Thanks!

I spray about a hr apart for about 8 coats then allow about a 2 week cure time
the longer you can let it sit the better

Thanks, John. The 2 weeks cure time was what I'd guessed, but it could have been 3, 4, or 6 and I wouldn't have had a clue when handling was happening sooner than it ought to be.

Between coats, I spray a cross-coat, let it dry a few hours, scrape/sand, do it again till I think I won't be improving matters by continuing. I think I'm getting a level surface with a minimum of buildup. I think...

in 2 weeks as you start sanding check your sand paper . if the finish start pilling on the sand paper you need to wait a few more days. I use about 1 tbl spoon of dawn to a cup of water

John, I'm doing a satin finish. No sanding after the last application. I intend to wait two weeks after last finish application before I fret the neck and assemble the project. I'm short of a definitive way to test suitability-to-assemble, but I'll take the two weeks as a better idea than two days.

Thanks for your advice.
