Spray cup size?

Post by Stray Feathers »

I bought, from a furniture-refinisher friend, a used Fuji Mini-mite 3 sprayer with their XPC (side mount) spray gun . It appears to have the standard 400 cc cup on it, which seems a little unwieldy to me. I was considering buying a smaller cup, like Fuji's 3 oz. (about 80 cc?) cup for that sprayer. My question is, how much lacquer would you go through in one spray session, working on a single guitar? Is the 3 oz. cup big enough or would it need refilling and be more hassle than it's worth? hard to answer needle tip size and adjusting flow will determine the usage.

I can get that much off a 1l2 cup of my fuji semi pro 2

Thanks John - the spray gun has a 1.4 mm needle which the previous owner said was what he used for lacquer. I seem to remember some discussion on the forum about using something closer to 1 mm but I will probably try the 1.4 to start. And I may as well use the existing large cup to begin with and see how it handles.
