I dyed first because I was worried that dying after pore fill may not make the figure stand out as much. For the White Oak, I actually died the oak black first, then sanded, which highlights the figure, I dyed from there. but I picked aqua coat because the instructions say you can dye either prior or after pore fill, so i figured it had flexibility.
