Finishing the neck joint???

Post by Bruce Dow »

I have been finishing my neck and body separately.

By the end of the weekend, I should be buffed out and ready to glue the neck on.

Do people "finish" the joint between the heel and the body?

If so, how?

Can I apply my newly-acquired drop-filling skills?

Thanx,

I don't do it personally. When you need to do a neck reset in the future, you have one less thing to worry about if you do not put finish un that area.

I would be concerned that over time the finish would "melt" into the finish on the body. If you later tried to do a neck reset, you might damage the body finish trying to seperate the neck from the body.

Thanks, all.

I won't finish it. The glue joint is pretty tight, and there are no visible gaps, so I think I'll be OK.

I didn't even glue the joint on either of my finished guitars. I also didn't glue the fret board extension and I have had no issues at all.
