Lacquer reducer/thinner

I picked up some Behlen string instrument lacquer but the store did not carry Behlen reducer. I would like to thin the lacquer 10%. Can anyone tell me if is important to use Behlen's reducer or can I use hardware store lacquer thinner? The salesman at the store couldn't give me any guidance.
Thanks,
Gerry

I personally avoid using hardware store thinners for reducing my finishes, you never know what is in them. Your local autobody supplier should have reducers in a wide range of speeds.

Thanks, John and Brian. Good news that I don't have to wait on a mail order for Behlen reducer. I'll pick up another brand at auto body supply.
