Hey all...
I've been searching for a good neck finish, something super silky, and to me a matte finish is fine as well. Talking to a local woodworker, he showed me a finish he uses on some of his boxes and other projects. It feels perfect! I haven't tried it on a neck yet, but I thought I'd share and see if anyone had feedback.
Who's our oil finish expert?
Multiple coats of a couple Tung oil products:
1. Coat pure tung cut with orange oil.
2. 3 coats of Waterlox. Tung oil with ,linseed& phenolic resin.
3. A coat of Bioshield Hard oil. Which is a Tung oil preparation from Europe. 0000 steel wool between each coat.
Thoughts?

Re: Neck Finish
I have done lot's of oil finishes through the years. The Waterlox tung oil is a very good product, used a lot of it.Another good one is Carlisle, it has a bit brighter look.
As to the other products used, I suspect the first coat with the orange oil added is simply to highlight the grain. The top coat I have never heard of so cannot say what it is like. I prefer to use scotchbrite (maroon) between coats. I also advise allowing 24 hrs dry time between coats.

You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
