Cleaning During Finishing Steps
In between coates of filler and/or finish, what do you use to clean?
A more specific question, when using Z-Poxy, can cleaning with Mineral Spirits between coats cause problems? How about cleaning with alcohol between coats......can this soften the epoxy and cause an issue?

Re: Cleaning During Finishing Steps
If I use anything it is DA. As long as the epoxy is cured it will not be a problem. Once I start spraying lacquer I do not use any solvents as even DA can soften and mar the coating unless it has dried for 6-8 hours. At that point I use a tack cloth after any inter-coat sanding. Finishes other than lacquer have different protocols.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....

I use Naptha at bunches of times throughout the finish process. I have never had it react with anything.watergunn wrote:Does anyone wipe a finish down with Naptha after level sanding and before spraying the final finish coats?

I use it after leveling my fill (System 3 epoxy) and after leveling the finish coats at 600 and 800 grits.watergunn wrote:Does anyone wipe a finish down with Naptha after level sanding and before spraying the final finish coats?

Re: Cleaning During Finishing Steps
I wipe things down with a damp cloth allow it time to dry my cloth of choice is old white tee shirts. I avoid terry as small particles of fibers can cause all kinds of things to happen to the finish surface. Also when spraying nitro be sure to wear a ground . Sparks and atomized lacquer are not a good mix.

Re: Cleaning During Finishing Steps
I am currently filling 2 guitars using Z-Poxy (Used it on 2 other guitars in past). I use Naphtha to clean up in between applications, and have not had any issues.
