What does Martin factory use for pore-filling?

Post by deadedith »

What does Martin use as a pore-filler? What have they used in the past? If it is good enough for Martin, or for Breedlove or Taylor etc., why aren't we all just using that?

And they apply it with buffers. That area of the shop is the only one that is a mess. Not something I could do at home, at least not without getting thrown out!

Why buffers? Are they that much more expedient and effective than hand application??

Buffers as in a wool bonnet and sling it all over the place? Hard to believe the wool wouldn't pull the filler out of the pores. Am I visualizing this correctly?

All I can figure is that the filler sets up some and the buffer helps smear it level, like John said, working it into the wood. That's just a guess but I do know that "sling it all over the place" is accurate!

The filler is painted on , and as it sets up ( flashing) they it is with a wool bonnet as Mike said. This forces the filler into the pores. I rub it in with a cloth but the buffer is faster . They also have these cool vacuum clamps to hold the body
