Having loosened the fretboard extension and steamed off the neck, there was a fair amount of tare out under the fretboard extension.
How much is to much and what is the best way to repair this area?

Would you please post photos of the damage? It always helps to visualize it.

Most likely, simply using a good flat sanding beam will take care of the tear out and cleaning the back of the extension, will allow a nice, secure, fit. Sometimes tearouts seem worse than they really are. Fortunately, the area is concealed.

Pictures would really help. If it's super deep, you may need to fill the areas. But photos will help tell the story.

you can sand it level when you do the reset you may need to make a tapered shim under the fretboard extension and that will take care of that area nicely.

Sorry I did not take pictures of the neck removal. It took a long time and a lot of heat to get the feet board extension to loosen up. I used a clothes iron and a heat shield to protect the top.
Then I removed the 15th fret and stoked two holes angled slightly towards the heel. I'm the pocket first try! Lots of steam from a pressure cooker and sports ball inflator needle. I filed the tip off so the steam could come out the end as well as the side hole.
Lots of wiggling and grunting but after about 25 minutes it came off but left the heel behind. A little more work and that was out too. Now to let everything dry out .

After cleaning up the fretboard extension and examining the frets more closely, I believe this needs new frets ( they also seem very small maybe go to a medium size fret) and the fretboard radius sanded. What are your opinions?
