Thanks for the pics and explanations of this repair, very interesting.
Has me wondering how a combination of fish glue and saw dust would work as a filler. T

glue and dust seldom makes a good filler
I find that depending on the area you need to fill I use regular filler if you have to dust and finish. I
stain seal fill then seal
if you have to you can see the filler will be darker but under finish it should color in. test it first. Dust and glue usually leaves a foot print

I learned a lot from that John. Thank you. When you mention Bondo, do you mean car Bondo? What brand?
