Can a bridge that has 2 1/6" between the bass E and treble e, be replaced with a bridge with holes that are 1/16" wider (2 1/8")?
I know that the original holes should be filled and new holes drilled.

Re: Bridge String Question
It really depends on the lay of the strings on the fretboard. I would suggest taking a piece of string and holding it at the low and high E string positions at the nut and see if you can manually move the "string" out to the spacing you want at the bridge. Obviously if the lay of the string is off the fretboard it is a no go! You also can usually be assured it is ok if the width of the 12-14th fret is the distance you want from e to e at the bridge.
