Documented 1931 Martin OM 28

this is a top that was pulled of a 1931 OM. The bridge plate was a replacement from the factory. The photos may not show the notch from the old plate. The drawing will show the landmark points . The width is actually 15 1/16 and the binding is also removed. The actual width was 15 3/16 with the binding at the lower bout.

What an ugly bridge plate replacement! <smile> I'll bet the original wasn't near that large. Was this done to strengthen a problem area on the top?

I have no idea why that was put in , other than that was what they used at the time of the repair. In the old days , a repair was done that more matched the time of the repair technique than the original construction.

Thanks John, Those finger and tone bars come right up to the kerfing. They didn't go inside the rim ??? Just checking some guys do put them in like the X-braces..Very cool pic's..LB..

the only braces in the top that go into the kerf are the transverse and the X braces The top thickness .109under the finsh

John, how far out from the x-brace are the peaks of the first nodes on the tone braces?

1 7/16 from the X to the top of the first node
