Old Martin

John Hall's restoration of the pre-1867 guitar in the repair section of the forum reminded me of an old guitar that was offered for sale locally that I got some pictures taken during the preview. It would have been an interesting restoration challenge.

Go for it! To bad it is missing a bit of the back, put the guitar would still be cool with a patch. It looks in pretty good shape.

Unfortunately (I think), I was the underbidder. I had enough br. rosewood to find a match for the missing wood, so for a modest investment it seemed like a good project. Probably the last nineteenth century Martin I will come across.

that is a pre 1860 Martin
the case alone is about $700

Wow. I hope one day to do a restoration of this magnitude.
