Another project in the shop.

This guitar needs a new top. This will be the 4th guitar I will be restoring or converting for this customer.
The top came off in pieces. It was fractured across the grain. On the past refinish the top was way over thinned. .055 at some points. The X brace was broken and too much amateur work . This will be converted to a 12 string .

Hello All,
Saw this one "first hand..." Can't wait to see the finished instrument. The new top is looking very nice! An understatement but John does beautiful work!

Sincerely,
Rich

John

Does a 12 string have a different back and sides than a 6? How about the neck block? What are the differences in top bracing and thickness?

A bit more accomplished. Here you can see the work progressing. It takes time and patience. I had to reset the rim geometry and repair some kerfing. Top is ready and tomorrow I can reset and glue on the top.

We got this project nearing the end. Here I have the kerfing repaired , and I got the top attached . I have the fretboard inlaid and had to fret it for a test fit for the customer. The headstock is BRW to go with the body. The neck and binding are about all I need to do before finishing.

It has been a while since I posted on this conversion. I now have the neck set and positioned so I can now layout the extension for the pearl work. The fretboard is bound with snakewood. The headstock inlay was lengthed to make it look right on the 12 string veneer. Hope you enjoy.
The binding is in process and those pics will follow soon.
