It's the brown self-adhesive tape. This guitar had some serious drying out issues. I got the worse one done. Had to slice off the bottom and apply the glue then used a small wooden caul backed with packing tape and neodymium magnets inside and out to hold it in place. Glued it down nicely but made a mess around the ribbon trying to get the glue in there. Any application tips?tippie53 wrote:That isn't the neck end but you can see the tail block. The ribbon is a linen and was glued on with HHG up to about 1963 then switched to tite bond. They even used a brown self adhesive tape for a while. Wet your finger and see if the glue reactivates. There are many methods to redo these. Duco or HHG will usually work

Aha, at first glance I had thought that was a truss rod access on the block.
