Check One Off the Bucket List

Post by Rag Thumb »

My name is Rex and I am from Durham, North Carolina.

I have previously built four kit guitars, but knew I was missing out on a great deal of fun (?) and enjoyment going that route. I just recently attended one of John's week long classes and came away thrilled - tired - but thrilled. It is hard to imagine having a more helpful, knowledgeable person to take me through that experience.

I have been building for about 3 years now and have been self-teaching myself on the guitar for about 2 years.

We had a great time. I love the handle you have a quick whit and I can say Rex was a great student.

Hi Rex and welcome!
I hope you took a few pictures and can post them when you're ready. I'm also an alumnus of Prof. Hall's school, great fun and whirlwind learning.

Here are a couple of pictures from my time at Blues Creek Guitars:

I hit the most recent nor'easter perfectly! What fun it is to enjoy 12 inches of snow in late March!!

The backs of my dred and my compatriot Steve Brown's cutaway:

The fronts of our two guitars with an added bonus of Rag Thumb in the picture. Hint: That is NOT my thumb!

Highlights of the week for me were doing pearl inlay, side bending, sanding tips, John's stories, Brenda's hospitality, and the many messages from previous attendees scattered among the workshop.

Congratulations! I'm admiring that 3 piece back on yours! *thumbs up*

I chalked the Martin tour off my bucket list but a class at John Hall's workshop is something that does sound enticing. What's the best way to break the ice to a wife who thinks you're "obsessed" with guitars and thinks I already have too many though?

Two things: (1) think of grandkids and other relatives you can give them to, and (2) convince your wife how wonderful it will be to have you out in the shop for hours on end instead of being inside in the way!

Works for me!

LOL - as if she hasn't already figured that out, given your profession!
