Hello from North New Hersey

Post by mthatcher61 »

Hello everyone,
My name is Mark. I live in the hills of Northern New Jersey. Retired from Submarines in 2003. The only woodworking skills I have are basic at best. I was a framing carpenter for about a year back in the 80's. Somehow, I don't think my old trusty 28 oz Estwing is gonna do me any good here.
I'd like to try my hand at Kit Guitar Building. I am gonna start with a basic D18 kit only with the 1 and 3/4 nut width instead of the 1 and 11/16's. I am going to try and practice patience and attention to detail. Lets see what happens.

Welcome Mark,

Unlike submarines...wood floats.

Now re "trying yer hand" Mark, do or don't do...but don't go wastin time "trying" or you gonna find you need that therapeutic hammer to fix things permanently.

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome. I have built a work bench Last week and received my mold and D18 Kit from John at Blues Creek yesterday. Started doing my initial kit check this morning. Lets get this ball rolling.

Welcome! I'm Air Force, but my son and sister are Navy. I had the same skills as you, when I joined the forum and I ended up with a playable guitar. So will you. There's a lot of help here, so don't be afraid to ask. Have fun!

It's definitely do-able. Lots of helpful folks here, and John will not let you fail with one of his kits.

Patience and attention to detail will get you a long way. Knowing what you need to do and how to do it are the rest, and this forum can supply that part.
