Greetings from No. California

Post by MeasureTwice »

Hi Folks,

I'm a 57 year old new member living in the northern-most part of the Sacramento Valley, not too far from Mount Shasta. I have some time off this summer and will spend some of it trying to get a good start on my first guitar build, a Stewmac rosewood bolt-on dreadnought. The kit is here and the pieces are out of the box getting used to our high temps and low humidity (which I'm struggling to adjust with a humidifier). I just ordered a mold from Blues Creek and I've been making cam clamps and cauls and reading (and re-reading) Bill Cory's book. I'm very excited, but in a funny way almost hesitant, to actually pick up the pieces and start putting this thing together.

Thanks to all for all the help this forum has already given me.

Welcome, Gregg. Need advice or answers? Just ask.
Plenty of good builders here who are willing to share their knowledge.

Hi there Gregg, always nice to have a fellow Californian on the forum. I'm down here in Visalia.
Don't hesitate, just jump in and get started on that guitar, and please do share your build with pictures.
As for the humidity, my shop in half of my garage with the same issues. I'll take the body of the guitar into the house this time of year when not working on it. The neck I've never had issues with.

Hi, Gregg!

I'm in Sacramento, which is a bit far for you, but if you ever get down this way, look me up. (Be sure to PM me well in advance, since I travel a lot.) Happy building!
