Greetings and Salutations from Pennsylvania,

Post by Stephendieringer »

Greetings and Salutations from Pennsylvania,

I am glad that I came across this site. It looks to be a wonderful place to share information. I’m certain that I will be able to glean much useful stuff, hopefully contribute worthwhile ramblings as time goes on as well. While was lucky enough to take a hammered dulcimer building class in college, the thought never occurred to me to build a guitar till I came across a kit in a woodworking catalog. Never played the guitar, but thought it would be a cool thing to try and learn at some point. Couldn’t afford it at the time, but it germinated a thought that stayed in the back of my head.
Those of you with kids of a certain age (maybe even yourselves) might have watched “The Magic School Bus” on PBS. To this day I still try and give my kids Ms. Frizzles motto, something like “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!”
A few years ago I finally got around to buying and building an electric from a kit. It seemed to go well, so I was on my way. Figured once you build the thing you might as well learn how to play it. Then figured Ok, let’s try an acoustic. If it went well I could then build others for the kids and grandkids.
I recently started my first acoustic guitar kit purchased from StewMac. After the initial wtf did I get myself into, I settled into taking it slow, following the instructions in the booklet and DVD. Extremely helpful.
Though I must say, I am proving Ms. Frizzles quote to the T.
Enjoying every minute along the way.

Regards, & Happy Trails.

you never finish something you don't start . Have at it . If you make a mistake and you learn from it , this then becomes a learning experience and not a mistake.
