Hello from New Hampshire - My adventure has begun

Post by dzthings »

Hi Everyone
I've been a software engineer for 35+ years, and have played guitar since I was about 8 years old. I've got guitars all over my house and my wife and both of my kids play. I've wanted to build guitars for a long time, and came very close to taking a intensive semi-private course last year but in the end couldn't really afford it.

My wife took a big leap of faith this past Christmas by surprising me with a StewMac dread kit. She knew full well what type of commitment that would be, and furthermore knew that I did not even have any location to work on it in my overly cluttered house. She also knew how I attack challenges, so she figured I'd be inspired. She was right!

In less than a month, I built a very small shop in my basement (the microshop), and have begun working on the project with gusto. This forum has been a real confidence booster.

My adventure has completely taken over my blog at http://www.dzplanet.com I've been updating my progress almost daily, and it's been great for my friends to see what it takes to build a guitar - and what some of the challenges are. I've gotten so much interest, I even figured out how to make a Facebook page to go with it (usually not my style) at http://www.facebook.com/dzplanetblog. Maybe some of you can take a peek and tell me what you think!

Anyway, I'm thrilled to be building a guitar - even so early in the process I can tell it will change my life!
Best regards
Joe Dz
