Howdy from Germany

Post by gitarrenmacher »

Hi our there,
my name is Christian. I live in Germany, about 40 miles east from Hamburg. I am building acoustik guitars since 1999, my first was a 000 rosewood with cutaway made from a Martin&Co. kit. From the beginning I´ve been infected with the luthiers virus and now I am owner of my own shop for guitar building and instrument repair.
Arround 2001 I found John Hall on EBAY and since then, we have contact regulary. He supported me with jigs and parts and I am very glad to know such nice guy.
I´ve been building about 5 guitars from kits, but nowadays I make all parts needet by myself. But still have some of Johns Martin necks in stock and also all kinds of wood to build about 60-70 guitars.

You in the USA must know, that we have a very rigid system of what we call "Zupfinstrumentenmacher-Innung" that means "Luthiers-Organisation". Until april 2004 it was not allowed to build guitars as a shop owner without the title "Master" and it was nearly impossible to get information about guitarbuilding here. So without the infos and support from american people I probably would never have become a successful luthier.
THANK YOU!!

If you like, you can visit my homepage and see what can happen with a kitbuilder.
You can see complete custom made guitars, but also kit guitars.
Sorry, only in german language.

I hope, my english is not too bad.

Glad you found your way to the KGF. By the way, you translate from German to English better than Google does.....
