Hello from Southern Illinois
Hi everyone. I stumbled on this forum while doing research on building a steel string. I've already found many interesting and informative posts. I have built two solid body bass guitars - with help from a more experienced woodworker. I "rebuilt" the first one, a P-type and then built a J. Both made from cherry and the second has a hickory top. I am more than pleased with the results, not bragging at all, since I see all the mistakes, just saying they both sound and feel as good or better than anything I have played. I'm sure that's mostly because they are my "children", if you know what I mean!
Anyway, I would really like to build a steel string and began looking for a kit to build. I have now decided to just bite the bullet and build from scratch, or maybe from a back and side set since I don't have access to wood. From many of your comments, and others, it seems the biggest step is just to do it!
