this is an interesting topic. A friend of mine told me to try using a squirt bottle for doing HHG. So today with Dianes topic I decided to try using the squeeze bottle.
It worked. Took a little getting used to but it sure made the process neater.
I use a 2 oz bottle but the glue in added water heated used a stick to stir .
Will use this technique again

I could see where it would be a lot faster than using a brush. It also would keep it from evaporating and thickening. Do you keep the bottle in hot water to maintain temp in between gluing?

I think it's an excellent idea!

yes I do
One thing I did notice is when you mix a 1/2 and 1/2 it won't thicken like it does if your using an open bowl. So I think you can run 60 40 a little less water. Star 50 50 then add a touch more glue
I did a test glue and after 6 hr the piece broke before the joint separated. I am happy. I am gluing a torrified top so I will let that clamped till tomorrow

Excellent. I've already ordered a bunch of small bottles. In fact, they make strip thermometers, like those used on fish tanks, but with the proper temp range for hide glue, which I may order to attach to the bottles, to ensure the temp of the glue.

I think keeping it bottled actually elevates a couple of problems associated with using hhg, such as application time, contamination of the remaining glue, evaporation, and just general mess.

I wish I had thought of it. I think it simplifies its use for those new to using it.

Put a couple of stainless steel bolts inside your bottle. They will heat up and keep the hide glue up to temperature a bit longer!

Patrick Edwards is the guy who makes Old Brown Glue. I attended a wood conference where he demonstrated inlay using 17th and 18th methods. Very precise with no visible lines in some techniques. He is worth listening to.
