I had problems with cold hide glue a couple of years ago. I've not had any problems with hot hide glue. HHG may be a bit more involved to work with, but it's tried and true. The learning curve isn't steep.

I'm going to do some controlled experimentation on HHG, just in an attempt to answer a couple of questions. I'll let everyone know how it comes out.

OBG is just hide glue and urea - I emailed Patrick Edwards and he replied, nice guy. Apparently it has to be heated a little to flow and has a shelf life of about a year I think. Of course retailers don't track expiration dates so probably best buying it directly from him: https://oldbrownglue.com/index.php/store
Or just make your own. Franklin adds stuff to it to make it more liquid and longer lasting which is probably why none of us have had good experiences with it.
