Glue and the bridge

Post by Danl8 »

I need to re-glue a bridge. Fish, hide or titebond original. What should I use?

It depends on what was used orginally
Be sure all old glue if off and your on good solid wood.
Tite bond is a great all around glue
HHG is also great
Fish is ok but can be hard to get a bridge off .
the key to this is be sure your on clean wood.
Clamp time I do 24 hr no matter what glue
on torrified a weekend is my plan

Thanks, John. Titebond it will be. Original gluing was HHG -- in this case not done well (by me), but the joint failure was exceptionally clean and we are now down to bare wood ready to go.

use a little white vinegar to help get all the old glue out of the wood fibers
make about 4 part water 1 part white vinegar or use glue deegoo

Good suggestion, John. The Q-tips & vinegar definitely picked up something, so it is ready for gluing.
