Inlay routed too deep

Post by Rag Thumb »

Hello all,

When installing a fretboard inlay set I made an incorrect assumption (yes, I know what assumptions can do to you) that all of the components of the set were the same thickness. I merrily routed along until I found that one piece was thicker than the others so I adjusted my depth to go deeper and successfully routed for that piece. But THEN, I forgot to reset my router depth for the next piece and, voila, I routed too deeply for the that piece by a few thousandths.

To correct for this I am thinking I can simply fill the bottom of the cavity with a bit of CA, activate it, and then come back with the router set to the correct depth and clean things up.

Does that sound like a good plan or does someone have a better idea?

Thanks,
------------

I use dust that matches the fretboard then gently work the pearl into the dust to get it level. That is not a biggie you should be fine. If you use CA don't use activator let it cure on its own

This is a rosewood fretboard that I will ultimately dye to ebony. Should I use rosewood dust? Will that dye ok later?

Thanks John!
