VERY BASIC net block position question

Post by SnowManSnow »

I've been watching John's video on setting up the sides and prepping them / gluing in the neck and tail blocks. at 13:44 he says he had established the centerline for the neck block with the actual neck. I must have missed something.
I DEFINITELY want my neck block strait and set in the right place... so .. how do you establish that exact position? I can see the entire build going slowly south if this one block is in the wrong place even by a little.
Heres a link to the video for reference :

you want to take the neck as that is a critical center line. The neck mortise may not be centered in the neck block. If it isn't and you use the center of the block not the mortise your neck could be off center to the top and the rosette.

I see.
so mark the center from the middle of the V, and not the middle of the actual block

IF the block happens to be off center should I square it so that the V IS in the middle?

I do pretty much what John said.

First I mark the center of the neck, drawing a line down the neck. Then I put the neck in the block. Using a long metal ruler, or other straight edge, I position the neck block so that the NECK is centered all the way down to the tail. Once in position, I mark the center of the neck block.
