Well I think I am going to go ahead experiment on my next build. I am thinking of trying out HHG on stuff like braces, and maybe fish for joining the plates to the sides since I can't see how you could use hhg quick enough for that operation (maybe some people can but I don't think I can).

Is there a particular gram strength of HHG that you recommend trying out for a newbie? From what I understand the higher the strength the faster it gels, right? Seems like every supply place has a different strength. LMII is 192, Stewmac 164, Bluescreek 251, and Lee Valley has either 150 or 260.

I've been using Behlen hide glue. I think it's 165 or something like that. StewMac sells it, although there are cheaper places. It seems perfectly adequate. I've glued on two bridges with it, and neither one shows any sign of coming off.

No problem John.

All I wrote was that on the Tools for Working with Wood website, it says the hide glue cannot be shipped outside of the USA. I'm in Canada. I don't see any shipping restrictions on Stewmac, LMI, or Bluescreek.

I also sell HHG in smaller amounts I don't know why they don't sell. There are sources up in CA but I am not sure where.

Lee Valley sells hide glue, two types. Also a product called "Old Brown Glue" in liquid form which is made in the US, 192g Bloom strength rating, 30 minute open time. Does anyone have any experience with this?

old brown glue and tite bond liquid hide are basically the same thing. I have used the tite bond franklin hide glue and found it works well. HHG for the east parts and bottle for the longer stuff like gluing top and backs on. the extra open time is very helpful
fish glue also works well .
