As John Says, The vintage Gibson Nick Lucas had 12, 13 and 14 fret models. A lot of folks really like the 13th fret ones. I may try that on a future guitar.

I like to plan ahead, mainly just to make sure i have what I need on hand so I don't have to order things in the middle of a build.

I agree with you. I hate stopping in the middle of a build to go pick something up.

I tend to collect everything before I start, but then I am open to changes - mostly in the binding/purfling scheme, bound/unbound fretboard, bling. Nothing like having the full size item in front of you to verify your instincts.
