Bracing the top with pic s

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my first bracing job... I took the time to sand the braces nice and smooth. Maybe it is in my head but it does make sense to me that a smoot set of braces will likely resonate better than braces that are rough. Can anyone verify if there is any truth to this?

For gluing the braces on I used fish glue. I read that it dries with a crystal hard finish and is great for this application. I am sure there are many theory's on which glue is best for bracing and why.

Nice job on the bracing

I have a 1933 Gibson L-00 that has circular saw marks down the length of the braces, but I have never heard a guitar with abetter sound.

don't forget to put a cloth patch on the top of the X braces

I'm not sure sanded braces make the guitar sound any better, but they sure make it look better.

John (and C.F. Martin) use a cloth patch on the X joint. I put a thin inset piece of bracing wood across the joint. Whether that works any better I have no idea. John has a hundred times more experience building guitars than I do.

I always sand those braces to neat and graceful curves. I like the inside of my guitar, to look as neat as the outside. BTW, don't forget the little patch on your center seam. Your bracing looks very very good!

I also sand them usually 320 grit , it just makes it look more detailed
