Oscar Schmidt Stella Style Rosette

Post by glasalle1 »

Hi Folks,

Finally got some time in the shop, and was working on my take on an 1920's Oscar Schmidt Stella guitar. Working on the rosette, which i actually styled after my 1925 Joseph Neptune Grand Concert guitar made by 1 of the NYC Italian Luthiers. Guitar has "stripes" Red spruce top, White Oak B&S

My rosette jig - I can get very fine with this:

Did inner and outer rings first:

Looks like it is going to turn into a great looking guitar.

This one a bit blurry, but gives an idea.

That is a nice rosette did you make it from scratch? Looks difficult.

Thanks guys!

Randy, I had Gurian make me the purfling based off my 1925 Joseph Neptune Grand Concert guitar. Hans Bentrup has a nice tutorial on his website on how to make these kinds of Purflings, but I barely get time to build, let alone make the purfs. I had them make it in 2 parts. The Bl-White "dental" molding is separate. Then the rope binding. So 3 pieces in all, dental-rope-dental.
