Spruce is light and stiff which makes for a good vibrating plane that can produce sound by mechanically moving the air. All wood absorbs some sound but not all of it. Your statement that the top and bracing would absorb all sound is without foundation and an exaggeration to make a point.

My point is that softer woods will absorb more sound than hard wood. I'm not saying it will absorb all sound. I'm just saying it may be worth exploring different woods for bracing. At this time we generally use the wood used for the top. If it's an Engelmann top we use Engelmann braces etc. Seems to me that if we used say a carbon fiber brace that it might work better than using spruce or whatever top wood is used or if we used a hardwood that is lightened up, at least on the top. And yes I know it will change the sound, that's the point.

Just trying to think outside the box.
