2nd build of D28 kit underway.

Post by johnnparchem »

I am slowly making progress on my second build of a John Hall D28 with Brazilian Rosewood ribs and back. My next step is to put the radius on the ribs front and back getting them ready for gluing. I have been debating back and forth between cutting the front x braces through the ribs or just butting them to the ribs. The debate is my fear of cutting the braces short against cutting the slot in the ribs deep. I most likely will use my router to cut the slots cleanly at the correct depth.

John, it's looking like a very good start.
Good job.

Fwiw - I use my Dremel to cut the pockets in the kerfing for the X and ladder brace ends, cleaning them up with a small chisel. I make a little gauge that lets me feather the ends of all of the braces to exactly the same height, then after the rim is sanded I set the router base on my Dremel to that depth - seems to work fine.
