Finished my brother's parlor guitar!

My brother asked me to build him a guitar. I had him pick out a back and side set and a top from RC Tonewoods. He picked the sinker redwood (on special :)) and quilted spanish cedar for the back and sides. I have seen flamenco guitars build with Spanish cedar but not a steel string. The wood looks really nice and supposedly it is hard enough. We shall see. I have not picked out the bindings, but I will go with something dark. Also I am using zipflex pearl for the purflings and maybe as part of the rosette. The wood in the pictures are from the rc tonewoods website of close to the wood I bought. Quilted spanish cedar:

Spanish Cedar is nice to work -- take care bending the sides even perfect 1/4 sawn will tend to de-laminate. I picked a super board suitable for guitars at the local Woodcraft store. Steel string no problem -- here's an OM in process -- pinless bridge too. This instrument is light as a feather! So my point is -- SC is a great choice for a SS guitar -- I got the idea when I saw a Spanish Cedar special editon Martin OM!

Thanks, all I will post pictures as I move forward. First I need to clean my shop from my last 2 projects and set up my new Jet 22-44 drum sander.

Thanks for the info Rick. That's kind of what I thought but I didn't want to assume. It's not just for this Spanish cedar though, right? You should be aware of this for any top and back.

Gotcha. I see how the risk of tuning the plates to the same note would be more of a risk with the similar woods. Thanks again.
