Starting a rosewood dread

Post by rcnewcomb »

Starting a rosewood dread. I'm still undecided about what wood I'll select for the top.

Martin kit, StewMac mould.

I vote for Adirondack or carpathian, for articulation and response. I'd use Engelhardt if you want more warmth and super sustain. Just my 2 cents.

You can never have too many clamps

Nope, there's no such thing as too many clamps.

I'll be watching this with interest - I bought a rosewood set from a man who was downsizing at a luthier show last fall, and a friend gave me (for doing some thickness sanding) a 30-40- year old sitka top set. I thought I might try a boomy dread, which I have not made before.

Cool. I'm finishing up a rosewood/englemann. I look forward to this top. It is silky and white. Maybe Adi or red spruce next time.

YouTube has lots of examples and guitar demos and detailed discussion on tonewood choices. Also
