I don't own templates yet for the dovetail, so the mortise and tenon will be routed freehand. I made s pattern from another neck which ivectraced on the neck and body. I routed close to, but not over, the lines that I drew. I clamped the neck into my work table, but I needed to place some wood on either side of the neck, level with the neck, to keep the router level as I removed all of the wood around the tenon.

Next, I need to flatten the front of the neck. I'll get out my jack plane to do this.

The mortise was much easier to cut. I'll finish them with the chisel tomorrow.

Thank you Kevin. It's Costa Rican Mango. Every once in a while, RC Tonewoods has a small supply of it in the form of rosette squares. I keep an eye out for it. It's unimpressive until you get some shellac on it, then it comes to life.

My shop cat, Parker, stopped in for some attention. She liked to snooze on a carpet remnant that I keep on a shelf under one of my benches. She's rather spoiled.

She looks like our office cat. This is Kimber when he as about 4 months old. He is full grown now, but a beautiful Tabby.

She sure does look like Kimber. Parker thinks she owns the shop.
