I had Kathy Matsushita help me with cutting the channels for the purfling, binding, and the end wedge.
Fortunately the dark spot on the top bass shoulder will get removed by the purfling channel Fitting a plug in the neck slot so the router can flow over that spot

I'm trying a set of bindings wrapped in aluminum foil to try and reduce scorching. I'm then fitting the bent pieces into the form. They will stay there until next week when I can work on the instrument again.

I think maybe using the foil was what allowed it to scorch; the foil is just tranferring the heat, just as the metal bending iron is. Putting a damp piece of cloth on the bending iron as you bend would probably have kept it from scorching (and would provide more steam, also) -- maybe you didn't get my email where I had mentioned this? :)rcnewcomb wrote:I'm trying a set of bindings wrapped in aluminum foil to try and reduce scorching.
