Re: hummingbird #2 Padauk Sapwood - Bear Claw Dred
The inside ring was not cooperative at all. I broke the first length and the second length split apart in a nasty non reversable way as the glue melted from the heat. Also one of the glue joints in the rosette ring came apart from the heat.
Definately heat is not a good way to bend herringbone. Never again.

OK so heat didn't work that well...
So I tried soaking the length of herringbone in hot water (from the tap not boiling) in the laundry sink for about 10 minutes.
As the water was starting to cool off I let the hot tap water run into the plugged sink as I gently and patiently manipulated the herringbone under water. I was easily able to slowly and carefully bend it into a tight circle by hand while keeping it from twisting. Once I got it into a small circle I quickly patted it dry with a towel and placed it inside the rosette ring and let it expand into it. Then I clamped the pieces down together to dry overnight.
Im feeling quite proud of my first rosette. :-)

Hi Al, you are doing some great work. I'm just sorry I'm at the other end of the country - I can't see these beauties in person.
