overcarved heel?

Post by jread »

calling for backup..

I am following the stewmac neck carving templates to get close then eyeball my necks. I overshot my target by a bit on this one. The shaft is good and on thickness spec. But the curve and the heel itself are a bit small. Does anyone have the eye or experience to know if I've built a neck that will snap in half or do you feel this will be OK? I don't need to carve it smaller, just need to bring it back to level w/ top. I have elevation and angle set. The heel got pretty small w/ all my overcorrections in angle. I leave it far rougher next time until after setting it.

thanks!

thanks! I was going for that but then got really nervous as all my cheap guitars have size 13 shoes right there.

Like John said, some old Martins had some pretty small heels.
