How thick is the back? I've found that getting full contact all the way around may take a lot of clamps, but I've had no particular difficulty getting the back to conform...if I have enough clamps.

The luthier who taught me about building guitars uses about 20 feet of bungee cord and just wraps it around until one can barely see the wood anymore. No -- not quite right. He sets the guitar on the equivalent of a radius dish, except it is trimmed to be just slightly larger than the guitar. This plate has pins sticking out all around its perimeter. He loops the bungee cord from pin to pin in all directions, pulling it tight so it pulls down the back (or top).
