Can a porter cable 333 random orbit sander with 220 be used on top and back ( bare wood surface prep- just closed the box)? I would of course hand finish with 220 on a foam pad. Thank for any advise.

I use a ROS all the time. I do not follow up with hand sanding. The ROS is designed not to leave long scratches. THere are areas that the my ROS will not reach I hand sand those.

the only advice is to turn it on , on the guitar don't turn it on then set it on as it will leave a mark.
I use ROS I will use 120 to start then 150 220 by hand

I use one too. BUT........watch yourself, they can take wood away very quickly. I had a friend who this happened to once, he went almost all the way through the side and had to start over on his guitar. :) And he had already built 12 guitars.

An accessory I find indispensable for any ROS is a foam interface pad, for the waist.

Thank you! Mine will be here Wednesday. What kind of life do you get from this pad? I even have a abranet sample pack I forgot about...

Depends on the use. I get several years at least.

I use the ROS on all of my guitars to sand off all obvious marks to 120g. Then I hand sand 220 to 320g.

My " interface " pad came today, very nice! Could have been using this for years. Homestead should sell them!
