your friend is misinformed to say the least. There is no treatment that I am aware of and I an very familiar with Martin and how they do pearl.
The pearl isn't what changed color it is the lacquer. The more sunlight it will be in contact with the faster the yellowing will happen. I have some MOP that is 10 yrs old and still white as I keep my guitars in the cases.

No the lacquer will color not the pearl. How much is not known , if you keep it in the case you will not have a problem and it won't get so colored you won't see it.
Not all finishes will darken .

Tippie is 100% correct, I do CNC inlay for a living and its not the pearl that yellows
